These 3 Core Values Will Turn Your Life Around

If you don't stand for anything, you'll fall for everything. - Peter Marshall

There are just too many people looking for approval from others. They surf the net and compare themselves to the people they could never be.

This leaves them in deeper despair. Comparing yourself with others is the quickest way to get discouraged. No one likes to be discouraged, so why do we want to emulate others?

In my speeches, I always ask people "If you're trying to be everyone else, who is going to be you?" The fact is that we can't be like other people because everyone else is taken.

I found that your core beliefs is what can separate your success and your failure. When I look at my greatest failures, I discover that it was due in large measure to me comparing myself to other peoples' successes and not my own.

For instance, I thought that I could be one of the stars in my high school football team. They were a group of guys that I largely admired (for the wrong reasons). I thought that it would have been the greatest blessing if I could be like them.

After pursuing this goal, I found myself becoming more discouraged. Working out and practicing the game just didn't fit my persona. Because of my failures, I went into the group that accepted me the most: druggies.

This rebellious group of marijuana users and alcoholics led me downward as their influence installed more fears into my mind. They were so discouraged that they didn't even dare to compare themselves with others!

Their belief was "Dude, just give up, you'll never make it." Sometimes, this is the prevailing belief among most people in today's world.

However, it doesn't have to be this way. You don't have to believe that you are a 'sucker' to your circumstance. You must begin to believe in yourself. It doesn't matter where you are right now. Just pick yourself up and dust yourself off.

Here are three core values that I've adopted in the last few years. These values will change the way you think about yourself, others, and your future:

1. Everything You Touch Turns to Gold: When you start your day out, believe that everything you touch will turn to gold. This means that everything you do will succeed and prosper. Tell yourself every moment, "Everything I touch turns to gold." This belief will prosper you immensely.

If you count your successes everyday, they will accumulate over time. Even if you fail at baking cookies or running a mile in under 12 minutes, all that matters is that you tried. If you keep believing that everything you touch turns to gold, you will start to think of new ways to get better at what you had failed at before.

You've got to look around your home and acknowledge the success that you've created up to this point. Look at your family and bless them everyday. Never do unworthy projects. If you find yourself in the midst of majoring on minors, look for something else that you can turn to gold.

2. You're in the Right Place at the Right Time: Last week, I had to pay a $160 fine after getting my car towed for illegal parking (I didn't know!). Despite the pain, I knew that I was in the right place at the right time. It's a feeling that I always have, even when the going gets rough.

Every day, you've got to realize that you're in the right place at the right time with the right people. The challenges that you are currently facing will only set you up for the tremendous success which was already preordained in your future. If you don't believe it, you won't have the success that you want.

There are people who say, "Oh Daniel, you're so lucky. If I had what you had, I would do what you did." The people who always talk about other people getting 'lucky' are the people who compare themselves to others the most. Say it like you mean it, "I'm always in the right place at the right time with the right people."

3. Everyone Wants You to Succeed: When I first started speaking in public, I used to speak to small groups. I would focus on the two negative people in the room as I gave my speeches. This made me ignore the other 8 people, who wanted me to succeed.

It took me a long time to realize that people wanted me to succeed. Many of my family members and friends had taught me that it was a 'dog eat dog world' and everyone only cares about themselves and their mothers. You'll find that the people who say this the most deeply embraces the negative side of competition.

While it's true that there are some mean people out there, it doesn't mean that everyone will treat you unfairly. Everywhere you go, focus on the positive people and send out thoughts and feelings of love. Say to yourself, "Everyone in this building wants me to succeed and prosper."

These three core values will turn your life around.
